Job description: A client Robert Half has partnered with is looking for a talented Payroll & Benefits Specialist to manage the production of accurate and timely payroll for employees, communicate effectively, and deliver strong internal customer service while working in a deadline-driven environment. This permanent employment opportunity is based in the Tri-Cities, Ontario area. Qualified candidates should apply as soon as possible!

Your responsibilities

– Prepare voluntary deductions, as well as wage garnishments, pay levies, and other involuntary court-ordered payments in a timely manner, including reporting to the necessary authorities

– Operate regular payroll reporting as required and assist with financial audits related to pay records and associated general ledger

– Aim for timely processing of payroll in accordance with labor regulations and standard accounting principles

– Handle quarterly and year-end payroll reports

– Assess data entered by others in the payroll software to include, but not limited to salary/wage increases, benefit deductions, employee termination dates, and employee leaves of absence under FMLA or other unpaid leave

– Guide staff with pay related issues, general questions related to payroll, PTO accruals, wage deductions, and fringe benefits

– Honor current payroll tax requirements and relevant laws associated with the processing of employee wage data, including payroll taxes, employee federal and state income and social security taxes and other required reporting

– Go over pay practices related to FLSA, fringe benefit reporting and other payroll areas and determine how those practices apply to advise management

– Pool resources with Human Resources, Information Technology, and other internal business partners to ensure security protocols for pay systems

– Establish systems and protocols to direct the collection, calculation and entering of pay data

– Knowledge in an HRIS system and high proficiency with spreadsheets

– CPP or PCP preferred

– 3+ years of payroll experience

– General familiarity with Full Cycle Payroll

– Comprehensive knowledge of Automated Payroll

– Automated Payroll experience preferred

– Previous experience working with UKG Pro considered an asset

– 401k – RRSP Administration experience highly desired

– 401k – RRSP Administration experience preferred

– Skills in Kronos preferred

– Wide ranging experience with payroll taxes

– Well-founded grasp of Canadian and US Payroll

– Practical knowledge of payroll systems for 100-500 employees

– Proficiency in benefits payroll

– Quality experience with Payroll Taxes

– Earlier work involving Year-end Payroll

– Experience processing liens, garnishments, and various withholdings
