Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Peer Support Assistant to join the Consumer Peer Support Team in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Peer Support Assistant with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Provide general direction, program support and guidance to the process of increasing peer support and consumer involvement in Mental Health Services.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Baccalaureate degree in a health related field or behavioral sciences, plus 2 years’ relevant experience with individuals with a mental illness/disability and personal experience receiving services within the mental health system, and previous experience providing orientation and training to consumers; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Second language requirements will be noted on the job posting, if required.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
  • Proven computer skills and ability to utilize contemporary software applications including MSWord, and the ability to adapt to new technology.
  • Financial management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with both consumers and professional staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to work independently with minimal direction, to problem solve, to take initiative, to organize and prioritize work, and to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with the public, volunteers and other employees, to deal tactfully and effectively with co-workers, public and staff from other agencies/organizations, to maintain confidentiality, and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to consumer/therapeutic needs.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to carry out the physical demands of the job.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
