The Division of Respiratory Medicine is the only centre providing pediatric respiratory services for the Province of British Columbia’s roughly 1 million children. Sub-specialty clinics include: general respiratory medicine, cystic fibrosis, severe asthma, sleep medicine, home ventilation and non-CF bronchiectasis/immune mediated lung diseases. In addition, the division provides the usual ward care, patient consultation and on-call services associated with any referral pediatric hospital. All current staff members also place great emphasis on meeting the division’s academic mandate. The provision of high-quality teaching for trainees at all levels, plus productive clinical research output are essential requirements for any applicant.

The Division of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, The University of British Columbia (UBC) together with BC Children’s Hospital invites applicants for the position of Physician Clinical Associate to aid in the care of children dependent on home respiratory technology in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.

The successful candidate is a physician who has completed four years of training in Pediatrics, will have (or be eligible) an FRCP in Pediatrics and is eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

The successful candidate possesses excellent clinical skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively with families in the care of children. All clinical activities are performed under the supervision of the Respirologist and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team. The successful candidate is able to demonstrate commitment to best practice and advancing knowledge in your field of practice. Additionally, demonstrates excellence in, and commitment to, teaching across the spectrum of learners. Strong inter-professional skills in working in complex environments and commitment to a clinical academic sub-specialty environment will ensure success in this role.

Responsibilities of a Physician Clinical Associate will include working closely with the HTV team (nursing, respiratory therapists and other allied health) to provide care to the inpatient and outpatient HTV population and may also include working in other respiratory medicine clinics (depending on the FTE amount and candidates expertise/interests), maintenance of patient health records and signing off of reports in a timely manner and in accordance with the Division and C&W health record policies. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will ensure a high level of professional competence expected of a Physician Clinical Associate.
