Plant Tissue Culture Technician

Aurora Cannabis Inc. is currently recruiting for multiple technicians to join our Aurora Sky facility, located near the Edmonton International Airport, Alberta. The incumbent will report directly to the Lab Manager and be part of the technical team working in a state-of-the-art tissue culture laboratory.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform tissue culture techniques for cannabis micropropagation
  • Select plant material with desired characteristics
  • Prepare selected tissues for production using aseptic technique
  • Mix and dispense nutrient media
  • Observe plant growth and health, and monitor for contamination
  • Prepare clones in rooting plugs
  • Maintain very strict of cleanliness and hygiene in the laboratory
  • Continuous improvement and innovation of tissue culture techniques for cannabis.
  • Execute with high level of accuracy doing repetitive tasks
  • Operate equipment including laminar flow hood, media preparator, media filler and autoclave
  • Clean, sterilize and maintain supplies, equipment and facilities according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure the laboratory is well stocked and resourced; effectively communicate with the Lab Manager for supply orders
  • Maintain complete records and inventories using Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Record data using logs, notebooks and batch records; follow strict SOPs for research and development, and production
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable with highly repetitive tasks with hand and wrist movements
  • Able to follow strict SOPs, GDP, and GLP
  • Excellent reporting skills
  • Ability to use sterile/aseptic technique effectively
  • Gowning procedures with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are in place for the laboratory areas to maintain clean environment – must be comfortable wearing PPE while working

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma/Bachelors’ degree in Agriculture, Horticulture Biology, Microbiology or Biotechnology with experience in plant tissue culture
  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting is considered an asset.
  • Must be able to pass RCMP Criminal Records Check
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working in a fast-paced team environment
