About Potash

In 2021, BHP approved a CA$7.5 billion investment in Jansen Stage 1 in Saskatchewan, Canada, which is aligned with their strategy of growing exposure to future facing commodities in world-class assets. Potash opens a new front for growth and is an expandable resource that can support a century or more of operations. Potash provides BHP with greater diversification by commodity, country, and customer.

Purpose

We are seeking a forward thinking and talented individual to take on the key role of Portfolio Commissioning Manager, for our Potash Jansen program of works. This is an exciting opportunity for a high performing professional to work with a range of senior stakeholders where your contribution will have significant impact on the business.

Based in Saskatoon and reporting from a project basis to the BHP Jansen Program Director you will be responsible for leading a highly skilled and diverse team supporting both Jansen Stage 1 (US$5.7 billion) and Jansen Stage 2 (US$4.9 billion) projects. As a leading contributor and key advisor, you will be part of the Jansen Program Leadership team and responsible for managing the Commissioning Team to safely plan and execute the requirements of the assigned projects. This will include the management of collaboration across Jansen Stage 1 (JS1), Jansen Stage 2 (JS2) and BHP Operational Readiness Teams, participation in project reviews and risk assessments and development of project Commissioning strategies. Regular travel between corporate offices and to site will be required.

In addition, as part of the Global Commissioning & Operational Readiness Function you will identify and influence strategic initiatives to drive productivity and cultural improvements across BHP Projects.

Work Location

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

About the Role

Other accountabilities will include:

  • Ensure an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental, and community responsibility is maintained through Commissioning activities
  • Develop, execute, and maintain the Commissioning strategies and project turnover processes across the Potash Program of works
  • Manage and further develop the regional Commissioning team across the Potash Program of works
  • Collaborate closely with Senior Project and Operational representatives to ensure the successful delivery of the projects safety, on-time and within budget
  • Responsible for designing an integrated project plan to successfully execute JS1 and JS2 and successfully transition the Jansen projects to the future BHP Jansen Operations teams
  • Manage change effectively and efficiently to strategically enhance the team’s performance
  • Keep key stakeholders informed regarding potential forecast change request impacts on project plans, documents, and deliverables and provides technical expertise to senior leaders on the impacts to shareholders
  • Delivers reports to stakeholders on phase/project completion to address success/failure of the project, ongoing considerations, and other closure-related factors
  • Identifies and assesses risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP’s risk management framework, and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes
  • Respectfully and professionally, influence stakeholders to drive optimized outcomes including Operational, Maintenance, Engineering and Technology teams
  • Work closely with the other project streams including Development, Delivery, Operational Readiness, Project Engineering and Quality to ensure portfolio synergies can be capitalized and lessons learnt leveraged

About You

You will have 10 + years’ experience with tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a trade qualification with relevant experience in Project Management or site operations. With previous experience in a similar senior role, you will have managed and developed teams and be confident in working within a complex environment.

As an experienced professional with a passion for guiding, developing and influencing teams and individual team members through mentoring and coaching you will bring strong leadership abilities with a demonstrated ability to lead a team that delivers high performance.
