Within UTE, the Black Founders Network (BFN) is an initiative created after extensive consultation with internal and external stakeholders in the Black Community. The BFN’s mission is to create an inclusive community of Black entrepreneurs at all stages of their journey, and provide them with the networks, resources, and inspiration to launch, fund, and scale impactful startups. The BFN encompasses three pillars – Core, Accelerate (a four-month startup accelerator) and Scale as well as various activities to support Black talent and career exploration.

Your opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, University of Toronto Entrepreneurship (UTE), and working closely with the Program Manager, Black Founders Network (BFN), the Coordinator provides support for all BFN programming including BFN Core, Accelerate and Scale; BFN events/meetings and similar programming which engages and grows the BFN community.

Hours of Work for this position are Monday to Friday from 8:45am to 5:00pm; and include some evenings and occasional weekends in alignment with event needs

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the production and distribution of communication materials; editing promotional and/or outreach materials
  • Coordinating the schedule for educational, program and event calendars; determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming; organizing materials for workshops,conferences and/or events; conducting post-event evaluation and analysis
  • Resolving issues that may occur during events and escalating problems as required; liaising with internal and external service providers
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms; updating and maintaining database records
  • Helping to create and administer a community virtual platform.
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items; coordinating administrative tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders; Gathering information about relevant stakeholders tracking program metrics to inform continuous service improvements
  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • Drafting and editing partnership agreements and grant proposals

Essential Qualifications:

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in program management; or experience supporting the delivery of education or student-focused programming
  • Lived experience and active involvement with Black and other under-represented communities on initiatives or programming that advance the relevant community
  • Experience supporting social media and digital marketing activities
  • Demonstrated experience working on multiple events with a variety of stakeholders
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet strict deadlines
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot event activities and provide high level of customer service
  • Excellent ability to coordinate and execute event logistics for a variety of audiences for small to large-scale events
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prepare presentations, reports and correspondence with minimal review
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and discretion in the execution of position responsibilities
  • Excellent software skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong initiative and ability to work well in a team

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Previous entrepreneurial experience as a founder or working for a startup company
  • Experience working with the Startup/venture building ecosystem in Canada.
  • Experience engaging with a digital community
  • Financial acumen and experience collaborating on cost estimates

USW Pay Band 09 — $65,407 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $83,646. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
