The SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue seeks a full-time Program Coordinator to assist the Centre in supporting Canadian cities in preparation for COP26. The Program Coordinator works with the Executive Director and reports to the Program Manager, Moving in a Livable Region to provide assistance in research, partnership development and liaison, event coordination, communications and outreach, program logistics and administration. The Program Coordinator will be situated at SFU Harbour Centre in Vancouver and is part of a team that focuses on urban issues within the Centre.

Qualifying strengths and skills:

An undergraduate degree and demonstrated commitment and experience in working on climate change or urban issues.

  • Ability to write fundraising proposals, grant applications and narrative reports

Position Description

The Program Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue cities and climate change programming. The Program Coordinator works with the Executive Director and reports to the Program Manager, Moving in a Livable Region to provide assistance in research, partnership development and liaison, event coordination, communications and outreach, program logistics and administration. Duties include:

Research

  • Provides assistance in researching Canadian cities climate commitments and actions, including the work of intermediary organizations (e.g. Federation of Canadian Municipalities, CUSP, ICLEI, Big City Mayor’s Caucus
  • Global cities initiatives related to COP 26 (including the Cities Race to Zero Campaign, the Global Covenant of Mayors, C40, World Future Council, United Nations Framework on Climate Change Cities initiative etc.)
  • Federal government COP 26 initiatives
  • Collaborative initiatives of cities in other jurisdictions in preparation for COP 26 (e.g. US, European Union, Latin American, Asian etc.)
  • Partnership Development and Liaison
  • Identifying potential partnerships and participating in meetings as appropriate
  • Documenting partnership meetings
  • Ensuring partners are well briefed and receive appropriate documentation between meetings
  • Maintaining an accurate database on partners and key project stakeholders in Maximizer

Event Coordination

  • Assisting in the scoping, planning and execution of a series of virtual and in-person (where appropriate) dialogues and events in preparation for COP26
  • Ensuring all logistical arrangements for events are planned and executed well (venue, catering, AV, note-taking, video recording, etc.)
  • Supporting the preparation of advanced reading dossiers for the dialogues
  • Inviting and liaising with key resource people
  • Inviting and liaising with participants
  • Providing logistical support in audio-recording sessions
  • Providing support to volunteers (training, supervision)
  • Preparing and distributing background resource packages in a timely manner to participants
  • Taking notes and report writing

Communications and Outreach

  • Preparing promotional materials for dialogues and events
  • Profiling events to key target audiences using a variety of print, broadcast and online tools
  • Supporting social media platforms with content
  • Providing support with any media relations, blog writing or op.ed preparation

Administration

  • Assisting with fundraising proposals and reports
  • Keeping detailed records of project activities, correspondence, press, contacts and process outcomes
  • Maintaining good working relationships with the project team and assisting with administrative duties as necessary
