Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centred clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Regional Director, the EMS Program Coordinator is responsible for the managing of both EMS human resources and EMS administration to ensure that a safe, effective, efficient, and quality EMS service is provided at all times.

Through a collaborative process, the EMS Program Coordinator functions as part of the EMS Shared Health Leadership Team and is responsible for decision-making, supervision and management of a work unit, performing diverse and routine to complex administrative work that may involve supervision of staff.

The EMS Program Coordinator participates within an interdisciplinary team, within the programs portfolio and regional team structure. The EMS Program Coordinator functions in a confidential capacity in matters relating to labour relations, recruitment and orientation, workplace safety and health, consumer concerns, occurrence reporting, quality assurance and quality improvement, development, coordination, implementation, evaluation and operation of the Emergency Medical Services within Shared Health.

The position of EMS Program Coordinator, functions in a manner consistent with, and supports the Mission, Vision & Values of Shared Health.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience in an EMS environment.
  • Experience in employee and labor relations.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Degree/ Certificate in Business Administration; Human Resource Management or Health Services Management.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s Licence and access to a personal vehicle.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of regulations governing Emergency Medical Services.
  • Understanding of the development, maintenance and implementation of a comprehensive regional EMS Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) /Risk Management System consistent with regional and provincial requirements.
  • Good understanding/experience and interpretation of Collective Agreements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as internet applications.
  • Ability to manage and facilitate groups.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability in maintaining effective interpersonal working relationships.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated sound organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize in a changing environment.
  • Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population.

  • Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to communicate in more than one language would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
