The Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a Project Coordinator. Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Coordinator will work on the project, Iligiingniq: Inuit Perinatal Health & Wellness Project in Arviat, Nunavut. The overall goal of this study is to explore cultural/linguistically relevant support with Inuit women during the perinatal period and co-develop and evaluate a perinatal program with Inuit women in Arviat, Nunavut.
The Research Coordinator’s primary purpose is to support the PI and the research team in the areas of analytics and reporting, in the development of documents and proposals for the purpose of presentations and publication, as well as the research grant application process. The sucessful invumbent will develop project timelines, monitor project deadlines and outcomes, and be responsible for project closeout processes. This role may provides guidance and direction to administrative and research staff, supporting collaboration with other related research projects, and ensuring that resources, such as specialized equipment, workspaces, and supplies are maintained and readily available.
The Research Coordinator will plan, organize, lead activities related to the project including organization and attendance of meetings within the network, facilitating discussions, developing research materials (semi-structured interview guides, short surveys, consent forms and recruitment posters etc.) co-facilitate focus groups and qualitative interviews, do data entry, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data. The role will also support the work of, and collaborate with, other research assistants, practicum students and/or PURE Award holders in these tasks.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Responsible for the coordination and administration of research project.
- Develop the structure, objectives, and policies of the research project, evaluating research activities and recommending improvements.
- Working closely with the Principal Investigator in the coordination of project resources.
- Develop project timelines, monitor and control of project deadlines and outcomes, and closeout of projects.
- May provide supervision and direction to administrative and research staff and students in the assignment of tasks and duties.
- Advise PI and research assistants regarding selection of appropriate research measures.
- Carry out study protocol including administering qualitative interviews, focus groups and questionnaires.
- Compile study data and oversee data entry into electronic project database.
- Maintain adequate records and organized data files following FOIP regulations.
- Seek out and communicate with agencies possessing data, apply for access, review, and analyze.
- Responsible for preparation of Research Ethics Board applications and licenses for conducting research.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Minimum Master’s degree in Social Work, Social Policy, Education or Nursing or other area related to Perinatal health is required. PhD is an asset.
- 2-3 years of experience coordinating research programs or projects.
- Minimum of 2 year related experience working in human subjects research.
- Knowledge of community-based research, preference for those with experience living/working/researching in Arctic Canada. A combination of education, training and lived experience may be considered.
- Extensive knowledge of theory and practical application of research policies and procedures, with emphasis on anti-colonial theory and Indigenous feminism.
- Extensive knowledge in research methods and recruitment of participants particularly within Indigenous communities.
- Ability to plan and direct research and administrative activities within a team environment.
- Ability to provide support to other members of the team and related units or teams.
- Ability to solve complex problems related to data management.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently and make decisions without supervision.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint) is required, additional skills in Creative Cloud an asset.
- Experience with SPSS and NVivo (or Dedoose) is a strong asset.
- Ability to be highly productive, meet short deadlines, and respond to quick turnaround.
- In-depth knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (e.g. Tri Council), specifically Chapter 9 TCPS, OCAP and CARE principles.
- Demonstrated ability in professional writing, preparing reports and conducting literature reviews for the purpose of presentation and publication.
