Job title: Project Coordinator/ VDC

Job description: Diversified Staffing Services, Alberta’s leading staffing agency is currently looking for a VDC Project Coordinator for our client in Edmonton.

Description

Responsibilities:

1. VDC design and drawing: The Coordinator will have primary responsibility for the creation, refinement, and publishing of the BIM documentation for MEP design and construction execution:

Design Build and Pre-Construction Coordination

  • Under direction of project managers, model MEP elements in coordination with other disciplines using work sets, system identities, and in consideration of constructability.
  • Maintain REVIT central and working models, and utilize BIM 360/Collaborate to achieve coordination with trades and consultants as needed.
  • Create piping and mechanical room equipment layouts.
  • Assess constructability of existing modelling information
  • Utilize MEP modeling and title sheet creation best practices, to carry documentation from model origin to title sheet completion (layout, section, elevation views).
  • Collaborate directly when necessary with consultants and other trades to create fully coordinated documentation, and be familiar with stages of design evolution (i.e. schematic design, design development, working drawings, final tender/IFC drawings).
  • Work with 2D elements of program to integrate AutoCAD-origin details and schematics, or draw natively within REVIT.
  • Model and coordinate architectural components as needed to facilitate mechanical equipment installation.

Ongoing Construction Support

  • Create project- and task-specific documentation to support construction staff, with technical assistance of project managers.
  • Collaborate jointly and directly with other trades to create VDC
  • Participate in regular project-specific meetings to incorporate and respond to design changes.
  • Update cloud-based applications (i.e. Autodesk Construction Cloud) for access by construction staff.
  • Answer questions about documentation as needed.

The intent is that the production of BIM documentation will be a joint effort between the VDC coordinator, project managers, and other trades/consultants. As such, the ability to work closely with others and advocate, where required, for MEP requirements within a larger design (i.e. mechanical room space) will be necessary.

A key aspect of BIM implementation remains creating designs and documentation that is ‘constructible’ and readily interpreted by construction staff and other disciplines. As such, all aspects of model/document creation must emphasize clarity and constructability, and reinforce (rather than detract) from overall communication and coordination with project teams.

This area of responsibility is expected to consume 50% of the Coordinator’s effort, and would be conducted generally from the office and via online meetings.

2. Material and Equipment logistics: the Coordinator will contribute to efficient project management by having primary responsibility for ordering, shipment, and tracking of project equipment and materials.

This will include:

  • Create material take-offs from REVIT models where applicable.
  • Assisting in assembling and executing project equipment and material lists, via participation in weekly project-specific meetings
  • Communicating delivery timelines to suppliers and site personnel.
  • Preparing of shop drawings in coordination with suppliers and project managers.
  • Tracking shipments for multiple projects simultaneously and under short notice as needed. Process heavy paperwork loads efficiently where needed.
  • Overseeing weekly assembly of materials at the warehouse, and oversee shop organization.
