The project manager will report to the General Manager at the Carseland site. This will be a contract position for the duration of both projects; the predicted end date is Q1 2025.
What you will do:
- Manage two major projects one at $30M TIC with scheduled completion in 2022 and the other at $130M TIC with scheduled completion in 2024
- Manage both projects to successful completion and closeout within the defined schedule and budget, using Nutrien’s project management framework
- Adopt an existing project team and adjust as necessary to ensure the success of the project
- Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to the Nutrien project team and to the engineering and construction companies
- Act as the safety champion for the project and set the expectations for all parties involved in the project, using Nutrien’s safety programs
- Make presentations and reports for all levels of Nutrien – from site level to VP level
- Ensure that a disciplined and rigorous project management approach is used to maximize efficiency and minimize scope creep
- Have an organized change-management process that keeps Nutrien’s best interests paramount
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, and other project controls according to Nutrien’s established practices
- Work directly with site-level management to adapt to business changes as they may arise
- Develop and provide monitoring and reporting for key project controls to keep paramount the following project priorities: safety, quality, schedule, cost

- Develop and execute construction management plans
- Ensure the project adheres to all relevant laws, codes, standards, and Nutrien practices
- Participate in relevant contractual and commercial negotiations on Nutrien’s behalf
What you will bring:
- Engineering degree, preferably registered with APEGA as a P.Eng
- 20 years of brownfield project management experience at similar facilities (industrial chemical/petrochemical)
- Experience in nitrogen fertilizer facilities would be considered an asset
- PMP certification would be considered an asset
- Strong communication and diplomatic skills with the ability to seamlessly adapt messaging to different levels of the organization
- A high level of personal and workgroup organization
- Well-prepared and action-oriented work ethic
- Ability to look ahead and anticipate future changes, plan, and adapt accordingly
- Leadership qualities that inspire and encourage direct and non-direct reports to add value
- Experience and competence with working in an operating industrial facility (full site-specific safety training will be provided by Nutrien)
- Experience represent an owner
