The Wildlife and Fisheries Branch of Agriculture and Resource Development is currently recruiting to fill multiple positions at the Biologist 3 (BL3) level: Regional Wildlife Manager (**LOCATIONS: THOMPSON AND BRANDON)

Qualifications:

Conditions of Employment:

· Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

· Must be physically able to undertake the duties of the position, including conducting field work in rough terrain and on water, during all seasons and under adverse weather conditions

· Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s license or equivalent from another province

· Must be able to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required

· Must be able to travel to and work in remote locations for extended periods within the Province of Manitoba, travelling by various means such as chartered aircraft, boat, ATV, and snowmobile

· Must possess and maintain pleasure craft operator license

Essential Criteria:

· Degree in Biology, Fisheries, Ecology or Resource Management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

· Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating fisheries management actions, plans, programs and projects, including fisheries field programs.

· Experience with the application of fisheries management principles and practices such as fish stocking, fish stock assessments, habitat assessments and appropriate rehabilitation methodologies.

· Experience with angling regulation and management, commercial fishery regulation, management and eco-certification, and/or commercial fishing tourism management.

· Experience applying fisheries legislation, policies and guidelines to make and/or recommend fisheries management decisions.

· Experience working with Indigenous communities including knowledge of Indigenous Consultation processes.

· Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information in a clear manner including communication, engagement and consultation with Indigenous communities, resource users, stakeholders and the public.

· Strong written communication skills including preparing management plans, assessment reports, project proposals and technical reports, with a high degree of accuracy, clarity and conciseness.

· Experience in budget planning, administration and management.

· Experience supervising staff, including addressing performance management issues, developing work plans and learning/training plans.

· Ability to work independently.

· Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster positive working relationships and resolve conflict within internal and external relationships.

· Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to prioritize work activities to meet deadlines.

· Experience working with Microsoft Office or equivalent software applications.

· Experience with operation and maintenance of powerboats, ATVs or other vehicles typically used in fisheries related tasks.

Duties:

Under direction of the Regional Fisheries Section Manager, the Regional Fisheries Manager is responsible for the management of the fisheries within an assigned region of Manitoba. This position develops and delivers Indigenous, recreational and commercial fishery programs within the scope of departmental policies and strategies. In this position, the incumbent will be responsible for initiating, planning and conducting approved management projects and programs that are developed and operated with appropriate user involvement to optimize benefits for Manitobans. This position also requires the incumbent to manage the performance of regional fisheries staff, identify training needs, provide access to training and identify career path aspirations and opportunities.
