The Wildlife and Fisheries Branch of Agriculture and Resource Development is currently recruiting to fill multiple positions at the Biologist 3 (BL3) level: Regional Wildlife Manager (**LOCATIONS: THOMPSON, THE PAS, LAC DU BONNET)

Qualifications:

Conditions of Employment:

· Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

· Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 license

· Must be physically able to undertake the duties of the position, including conducting field work in rough terrain and on water, during all seasons and under adverse weather conditions

· Must be able to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required

· Must be able to travel to and work in remote locations for extended periods within the Province of Manitoba, travelling by various means such as chartered aircraft, boat, ATV, and snowmobile

Essential Criteria:

· Degree in Biology, Wildlife, Ecology or Resource Management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

· Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating wildlife management actions, plans, programs and projects, including wildlife field programs.

· Experience with the application of wildlife management principles and practices such as wildlife allocation, wildlife habitat assessment, wildlife disease, population monitoring, season setting or non-game management including reviewing development proposals to assess wildlife impacts.

· Experience working with Indigenous communities including familiarity with Indigenous Consultation processes.

· Experience applying wildlife legislation, policies and guidelines to make and/or recommend wildlife management decisions.

· Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information in a clear manner including communication, engagement and consultation with Indigenous communities, resource users, stakeholders and the public.

· Strong written communication skills including preparing management plans, assessment reports, project proposals and technical reports, with a high degree of accuracy, clarity and conciseness.

· Experience in budget planning, administration and management.

· Experience supervising staff, including addressing performance management issues, developing work plans and learning/training plans.

· Ability to work independently.

· Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster positive working relationships and resolve conflict within internal and external relationships.

· Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to prioritize work activities to meet deadlines.

· Experience working with Microsoft Office or equivalent software applications.

Duties:

Under direction of the Regional Wildlife Section Manager, the Regional Wildlife Manager is responsible for the management of wildlife within an assigned region of Manitoba. This position plans, coordinates, organizes and supervises regional wildlife research and management programs. The incumbent will also assist in the development and delivery of all wildlife programming including commercial wildlife allocation, wildlife habitat assessment, wildlife disease, population monitoring, season setting and non-game management. This position also requires the incumbent to manage the performance of regional wildlife staff, identify training needs, provide access to training and identify career path aspirations and opportunities.
