The SHC is more than just a “hospital”, it is a campus environment and includes inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services, as well as prevention, and public health learning opportunities for the community. The campus also includes a YMCA and retail services. Unit 68 is a 36 Bed Medical/Surgical Unit that provides care to both General Medical and General Surgical patients. Under the direction of the Unit Manager, the Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing the needs of patients, for education, and optimization for surgery using the Nursing Process. The Registered Nurse provides peer education, participates in and supports medical and nursing research activities, and demonstrates professional accountability in all aspects of dealing with the public. The Registered Nurse demonstrates leadership skills and abilities, ensuring practices meet legislative requirements in accordance to the practice standards of the CARNA, and the CNA code of ethics. The Registered Nurse utilizes critical thinking skills and sound clinical judgment in their independent, interdependent, and dependent functions in the provision of health care and within their scope of practice.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour – $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management – Chapters 1 – 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:

Trained in Low Dose Ketamine Infusions. 2 year acute care medical/surgical nursing experience within the last 5 years. PCA/PCEA Certification. TNA/TPN Certification. Central Line Certification. Chest Tube care and maintenance knowledge. Physically able to manage extended periods of walking, standing, sitting, lifting, pushing and pulling. Preferred Qualifications:

Recent charge experience on an acute inpatient unit. Previous experience preceptoring, orientating, and/or mentoring new staff, and/or students. Effective patient teaching experience (both written and verbal). Proficiency in clinical assessment skills and critical thinking. Ability to establish relationships with patients and families and engage them in their care.
