Job description: Your Opportunity:
In collaboration with a strong multidisciplinary health care team, the Registered Nurse (RN) on Unit 102 provides holistic care to the general surgery/surgical oncology patient. Working to full scope of practice, the RN provides leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients to promote, maintain and restore health. Unit 102 is a fast paced unit, which requires the RN to be confident in their advanced competencies and surgical nursing knowledge.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 1 year current acute surgical nursing experience. Demonstrates effective time management and organizational skills. Commitment to working within a dynamic healthcare team interested in advancing the care of surgical patients. Ability to manage multiple demands and changing priorities. Basic computer skills required. 3 years current acute surgical nursing experience preferred. TNA/TPN certification preferred. PCA/PCEA certification preferred. Preferred Qualifications:
CVC certification. Wound care/ostomy care and maintenance. Charge Nurse experience. Drains – removal, care and maintenance. Tube feeds (NG, J-tube). Cardiac monitoring experience and knowledge. Recent experience in general surgical nursing on an acute care inpatient unit. Experience with caring for High Observation surgical oncology post-operative patients. Knowledge of SCM and Clinibase Inpatient.
