Unit 29 is a 32-bed in-patient unit that covers the following surgical focuses general, colorectal, gynecology, breast-hernia-thyroid, and plastic surgery. In collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides a professional, caring, and comprehensive approach to the surgical and medical patient. The RN provides leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients and families for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health, illness and safety prevention. This unit uses the CoACT collaborative model of care. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Strong patient teaching skills. Ability to be self-directed and exercises independent decision making, nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team. Excellent time management and prioritization of skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Actively integrates patient and family centered care principles within own nursing practice. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Basic knowledge of computers and software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office). Understanding of CoAct and collaborative care in the acute care setting. Compliance with the AHS Hand Hygiene policies.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years surgical nursing experience within the last 3 years required. Current IV, CVC, epidural and PCA certifications required. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the following surgical areas are preferred: colorectal, plastics, gyne, and breast/hernia/thyroid. Nurses with a final focus on Unit 29, will be given consideration.
