Job Summary
The research assistant (RA) will support the principal investigator (Dr Kristin Campbell) and other research staff and trainees in the Cancer Exercise & Physiotherapy lab (CEPL) on exercise oncology research projects. The RA will coordinate research studies including the implementation of knowledge products for exercise recommendations for people with bone metastases as well as building and evaluating a Project ECHO focused on supportive care for oncology practitioners. The RA will also support other staff (research manager, RAs) and trainees that are working on projects to recruit subjects, collect and analyze data as well as deliver exercise interventions.

Organizational Status
Reports directly to the study Principal Investigator (K. Campbell). Works closely with research staff and trainees in the CEPL.

Work Performed
The position will work directly with the investigators who are mounting the studies. Responsibilities include working independently in a setting that involves varied and complex tasks such data collection, research study coordination, and collaboration with stakeholders and health care professionals.

Monitors and tracks project progress to ensure timely completion of projects.

Coordinates meetings with study team, stakeholders and/or health care professionals, fostering excellent communication skills in a collaborative environment.

Develops and disseminates study materials and knowledge products.

Collects and manages research data.

Writes reports and provides weekly updates on project status.

Drafts and monitors research ethics applications.

Assists study team with research processes including screening, consenting, assessments, data analysis, and writing.

Carries out all other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Inappropriate judgement would compromise the quality of the research study, related data acquisition and the reporting of research outcomes.

Inappropriate judgement would also compromise research success, participant safety and ethical approval, thus affect the credibility of the Investigators.

Supervision Received

Employee will work with minimum supervision, receiving instruction only on unusual problems or on matters which depart significantly from established policy and procedures. The position requires a strong independent work ethic and a candidate capable of setting their priorities within a given framework, and working within agreed-upon milestones and timelines.

Supervision Given
May have supervisory responsibilities for a small group of employees at lower classifications and may have input into staff selection and performance evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Education & Experience:

Minimum of an undergraduate degree in related field with a minimum of 2 years of research experience or equivalent of education and experience.

Exceptional organization and project management skills, as well as a high degree of motivation, enthusiasm, and initiative are required for this position.

Experience with managing data collection for research projects preferred.

Experience in creating professional development materials preferred.

Experience in managing online events preferred.

Registered physical therapist or certified clinical exercise physiologist an asset.

Certified in CPR.
