Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking a Safety Lead to join our Cenovus Sunrise Team in Fort McMurray, AB. This is a Temporary position to support Spring 2021 Turnaround work and shift rotation can vary from 6 days on 1 day off to 7 days on 7 days off.

This position will report to the Safety Manager, the incumbent provides leadership for Safety / EHS activities for an assigned area/project.

Job Summary Includes:

  • Develops, implements and manages safety / EHS programs for the company, business lines, regions, and/or clients.
  • Provides leadership and support to Operations to help the organization achieve SH&E goals and objectives.
  • Assists the business to meet regulatory requirements relating to specific Safety/EHS obligations e.g. trained safety professionals in business/projects, officer duties, statutory reporting etc.
  • Under general supervision performs technical work in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with SH&E standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of their environmental specialty.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems and procedures.
  • Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be found in the work area.
  • Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.
  • Acts as the focal point between management and labor ensuring details and expectations regarding safety/EHS performance are clear and understood.
  • Provides coaching/mentoring to supervisory and labor staff and champions the incident investigation process and issue resolution follow up.
  • Influence others, through consistent model management: “walks the talk” philosophies, solid business fundamentals and sound ethics.
  • Challenges the way we do business, sees the big picture and keeps an eye on long-term success by turning safety challenges into meaningful direction.
  • Acts as a resource on all project task activities providing coaching / mentoring to senior management.
  • Provides overall direction for Safety/EHS activities, ensuring compliance to all Company policy and procedure guidelines.

1. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Alcohol & Drug (A&D) policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company’s Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM – O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree + 4 Years of Experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Proficient in MS office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Able to mentor/coach/supervise others.
  • Great communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS-09).
  • H2S Alive Ticket.
  • This position will be required to drive a vehicle on behalf of AECOM and therefore will require the candidate to submit a satisfactory 3 years driver’s abstract for review.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong leadership skill is preferred.
  • Previous experience in construction / maintenance project industry is preferred.
