The opportunity

The Global Asset Liability Management group has the mandate to play a leadership role in the identification and assessment of ALM related risks globally along with the development of an effective risk management infrastructure and strategies to support the company’s business strategies and financial objectives.

Reporting to the AVP, Data Analytics and User Experience, this position is based in the Company’s Toronto Head Office and focuses on supporting ALM and other users consuming data from ALM system.

The incumbent will assume a key role in managing data intakes, process design, data quality and system enhancement to support ALM reporting and risk management needs. The incumbent will work closely with professionals from the investment, portfolio modeling team, Middle Office/Operation and Risk and Compliance teams. This successful candidate will have strong coding skills, high level of analytical and problem-solving skills and will be familiar with concepts related to fixed income assets and derivatives.

Position Dimensions (Organizational Impact):

The role is essential to provide timely financial and risk information to ALM, Risk, Compliance and COO office for risk management, performance measurements and portfolio management.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily, monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc reporting deliverables, from loading data to running workflows to generating final reports and ensure all deliverables are meeting deadlines.
  • Develop new and enhance existing processes/controls to detect data errors and reduce workflow failures.
  • Work with source providers to continue improve data quality.
  • Prepare BAU tickets as required to support production.
  • Ensure the integrity, completeness, and timely production of operational reports.
  • Perform risk analysis and support the business users to build ad-hoc enquiries.
  • Establish well controlled and documented operational procedures.
  • Establish excellent working relationship with other operation teams.
  • Perform UAT and regression tests as required.
  • Track all new projects and ad-hoc requests.
  • Participate in system development and enhancement, include coding and preparing BRD
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects and other ALM related initiatives

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s or Masters in a quantitative discipline, Computer Science, finance or CFA/PRM/FRM or other relevant risk management designation with strong computer background.
  • Minimum 2-4 years working experience in a financial/investment risk management environment
  • Prior ALM experience is an asset.
  • Strong programming experience in SQL, Python, Excel and VBA.
  • Excellent knowledge of fixed income investments and derivatives such as swaps and futures.
  • Excellent analytic and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of data model is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Manulife financial systems and processes is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) and build strong working relationships across divisions.
  • Multi-tasking self-starter and ability to work in ambiguous environment and with little guidance.
  • The successful candidate will be highly motivated and be willing to take on new challenges and work autonomously.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between $68,775.00 CAD – $114,625.00 CAD
