THE JOB
The senior architect / designer is responsible for various aspects of the project, including the day – to – day delivery of a project or multiple projects from concept through to completion. They will be responsible for design continuity, and senior leadership throughout all stages of the project. This role requires advanced experience and knowledge of the project delivery process and the ability to anticipate and troubleshoot as required. This role will include working directly with Principals and Clients and will represent the firm to client groups, subconsultants, contractors and public authorities and will work in collaboration with all project team members in a senior architect’s capacity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Capable of providing leadership in design and mentoring team members
- Coordinate and deliver presentations to a variety of user groups
- Contribute to business development initiatives such as Request for Proposals, Fee Proposals
- Regular review of monthly client and consultant invoices
- Oversee project status, schedule and costs
- Coordinate/Assist in the development of representations of conceptual design options for further discussion by the design team
- Guide the preparation of drawings, models, visuals, graphics, and other documents relating to the project design
- Develop programming aspects of the project design
- Exercises maturity in architectural judgment in anticipating and solving complexities, determining project objectives and requirements
- Coordinate and administer client and / or consultant meetings
- Manage client relationships and actively develop these throughout the project process
- Assist and guide where necessary project presentations including drawings and sketches
- Assist and guide the illustration of the scale and character of a project
- Is able to work on multiple projects of different scales at various project stages of the project delivery process
- Ensure projects are delivered effectively through efficient resource management and achieving scheduled milestones
- Coordinate and provide guidance to project consultants as required.
- Develop project work plans, schedules, and budgets
- Liaise with authorities having jurisdiction as required for approval processes
- Oversee/Prepare required documentation for clients and / or consultants
- Coordinate/liaise with construction drawing team and implement information from consultants
- Guide the development of construction documentation with the technical team
- Liaise with the construction administration department with respect to design questions and or issues during the construction phase.
- Mentor and facilitate development of Senior/Intermediate Design staff
- May be required to provide support or assist with various tasks at various skills levels as may be required for project and / or firm success
WHAT’S REQUIRED
The ideal candidate will have the following credentials;
- Minimum 8-12 years of relevant experience in design/architectural/engineering industry
- Post-secondary training in architectural design
- Advanced understanding of all phases of the design delivery process and how they are interconnected
- Excellent familiarity of building, fire, and energy codes as well as local authority processes
- Strong knowledge of the design and construction process as well as project management functions
- High proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam REVU, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-Up
- Strong understanding of specifications / project manuals, building materials / installation methods & architectural document preparation and layouts
- Advanced understanding of building envelope and principles
- Excellent time management, attention to detail & problem-solving ability
- Able to work collaboratively in a team setting, as well as individually
- Strong coordination & communication skills, both oral & written
- Able to mentor & manage junior staff
