As a Senior Communications Specialist for our North American Headquarters in Edmonton, you will contribute to our team by:

  • Creating internal and external communication plans for mid-size to large projects and initiatives and ensuring they are measurable
  • Coordinating and managing the resources and change management process to ensure success of planning
  • Providing superior editing and proofreading support
  • Aligning both written and visual communications to meet the business need
  • Assisting in the production of multifaceted events
  • Communicating complex items through written communication that are tailored to the right audience
  • Providing recommendations on the appropriate communications and ensures PCL standards are met
  • Participating in the department strategic-planning process
  • Leading the development, execution, and evaluation of projects/initiatives as assigned
  • Mentoring entry-level communications specialists on best practices and technical skills
  • Developing strong, customer-focused relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Establishing him or herself as a trusted advisor to senior management and executives
  • Partnering with top clients’ communications professionals on external communications
  • Developing and executing external communication strategies for a topic/project/initiative
  • Collaborating with clients on social media and looks for opportunities to partner
  • Identifying potential risks on social media and recommends action
  • Identifying opportunities for PCL to be thought leaders in speaking opportunities, articles, etc.
  • Monitoring local media-relations efforts and responds to crisis communications
  • Developing relationships with media and pitches stories on a regular basis, hosts media tours, etc. that result in positive media stories for the district/sector/region
  • Working collaboratively with creative and marketing professionals to create appropriate visual communications solutions

Qualifications

What you will bring to the role:

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in marketing, communications, journalism or equivalent
  • Seven years progressive experience in a communications role
  • The ability to create multifaceted communications plans
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior editing and proofreading skills with the ability to identify business priorities and potential sensitivities
  • An in-depth understanding of the various communications and marketing mediums
  • The ability to effectively communicate the PCL brand and to effectively apply visual communications assets in alignment with PCL’s visual brand identity
  • The ability to communicate key technical information in plain language for general consumption
  • Advanced skills in the Microsoft Office Suite and other specialized software as required
  • The ability to coach and mentor entry-level communications professionals
  • A high level of detail orientation, strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize
  • The ability to interpret and use data analytics to analyze information and make recommendations
  • The ability to research, analyze and organize information accurately and effectively
  • A trusted communications advisor to peers, middle management and executives
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers
  • The ability to act with discretion when handling confidential information
  • A high level of critical thinking and sound decision-making skills
