As the Senior Director, Information Technology and Security, you will play a pivotal role in defining and implementing the strategic direction of our rapidly growing organization. We are seeking a hands-on and experienced Senior Director of IT and Security to oversee and implement our IT strategy and to work with our CISO to execute our Security strategy. You will ensure our SaaS applications are robust and can scale as we continue rapid and dynamic growth, while also ensuring sufficient controls are in place to maintain the accuracy and integrity of IT systems. We believe in building things the right way with the right tools; this role will be instrumental in driving us forward.
You will / Responsibilities / What you will do
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute the strategic vision for the Information Technology and Security department.
- Champion the role of IT within the organization, promoting technology to enhance business efficiencies and cost savings.
- Collaborate with Executive Management to align both strategic and tactical IT plans with business goals and priorities.
- Collaborate with our CISO to manage the IT/Security team and co-lead the maturation of our security posture.
Governance and Metrics:
- Establish an effective IT Governance function, prioritizing IT tasks and defining service-level agreements.
- Develop reporting and metrics to measure IT value and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
SAAS Application Management:
- Design and implement an integrated solution for corporate SAAS applications, ensuring their robustness and scalability.
- Evaluate and optimize solutions based on SAAS platforms, such as NetSuite, Zendesk, BambooHR, and others.
Security and Controls:
- Collaborate with our CISO to mature our IT Control Framework and implement controls to meet regulatory requirements, including SOX, access & security, and privacy.
- Ensure data accuracy and integrity across all systems such that business decisions are made using timely and accurate data, as well as implementing security measures to protect against cyber threats.
Operational Excellence:
- Develop and implement IT operational processes, including change management and incident/service request management.
- Oversee the reliable operation of infrastructure and communications systems, including network systems and telecommunication.
Team Development:
- Recruit, lead, and mentor a high-performing IT team, fostering growth and maturity within the department. Define roles, responsibilities, and organizational structure, including security engineering.
- Manage the IT budget and, operating within budget constraints while optimizing resource allocation and negotiating licenses.
Governance and Metrics:

You Have / We’re looking for / Requirements
- Proven experience in developing IT strategy and building IT organizations in a SaaS environment.
- Moderate level of experience managing security team members and implementing cybersecurity controls.
- 12+ years of progressive IT experience, with 8+ years in a leadership role.
- Expertise in IT control frameworks and experience in defining and implementing IT controls, including SOX, access & security, and privacy.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at the CxO level.
- Ability to articulate IT issues and recommendations in non-technical terms.
- Familiarity with IT governance frameworks, such as ITIL.
- Knowledge of project management and systems development methodologies, including waterfall and Agile approaches.
- Strong technical expertise in IT architecture, data integration, and networking infrastructure.
- Experience integrating and optimizing solutions based on SaaS platforms.
- Experience developing solutions in a cloud based infrastructure in AWS.
- Proficiency in SaaS applications, including NetSuite, Okta, Adaptive Planning, Zendesk, and BambooHR.
- Strong team-building, organizational, and staff development skills.
- High degree of initiative and ability to make informed decisions based on industry best practices and standards.
At Scribd, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package and is determined within a range. Our pay ranges are based on the local cost of labor benchmarks for each specific role, level, and geographic location. San Francisco is our highest geographic market in the United States.
In the state of California, the reasonably expected salary range is between $174,000 [minimum salary in our lowest geographic market within California] to $281,500 [maximum salary in our highest geographic market within California].
In the United States, outside of California, the reasonably expected salary range is between $143,000 [minimum salary in our lowest US geographic market outside of California] to $267,250 [maximum salary in our highest US geographic market outside of California].
We carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including but not limited to experience; job-related skill sets; relevant education or training; and other business and organizational needs. The salary range listed is for the level at which this job has been scoped. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for a competitive equity ownership, and a comprehensive and generous benefits package
