About the Opportunity
Leading and working through the finance/accounting function

  • Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Design efficient working papers for the efficient close of the monthly financial statements
  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures
  • Build and implement leading practices in support of an efficient and effective business, including Procure to Pay, Order to Cash, Treasury, Asset Management, and Financial Reporting, with a goal of closing the period within 5 business days
  • Develop sound financial controls, processes and policies designed to safeguard the assets and business dealings of the Company
  • Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met including, Withholding Payments (CPP, EI), Income Tax, HST, Employer Health Tax, et al
  • Oversee the preparation of all supporting information for the year end and liaise with external accountants as necessary
  • Manage the cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts
  • Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger, including f/s groupings, cost centers, hierarchies, and company codes
  • Ensure that policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure and stored in compliance with current legislation
  • Manage the process for the acquisition of capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed of as appropriate
  • Manage the process for inventory costing, including monthly variance analysis of actuals vs. standards
  • Create financial models analyzing strategic business decisions
  • Streamline all software packages that impact financial information
  • Bring finance and accounting support to the functional areas of the business: Procurement, Logistics, Marketing, Sales, Customer Services, etc.
  • Develop working capital strategies to improve our cash conversion cycle to

Financial Reporting

  • Oversee external reporting of the financial statements to key stakeholders: Leadership Team, Bank, Shareholders, Board, etc.
  • Manage all bank reporting requirements, including covenant calculations
  • Review monthly results and implement monthly variance reporting of actual vs. budget forecast. and. prior period
  • Manage the month-end process, including setting up workflows and approval flows

Payroll/Human Resources

  • Review bi-weekly payroll processing of the Company’s payroll, including all statutory deductions
  • Oversee all payroll controls and processes to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner, and that amounts owing are accurately accrued
  • Negotiate and manage the employee insurance and benefits plans
  • Process and submit statutory and benefits remittances on time
  • Oversee the issuance of annual T4s and T4As
  • Manage the Company’s benefits plan and other ’employee perks’
  • Draft employment agreements for new hires
  • Draft termination letters

Risk management/Treasury

  • Monitor risk management policies and procedures to ensure that program and organizational risks are minimized
  • Together with the VP, Finance, negotiate with the Bank for lines of credit or other financial services as required and appropriate
  • Develop an F/X strategy
  • Oversee and develop effective currency hedging strategies

Other Areas

  • Oversee the management of all leases, contracts, and other financial commitments
  • Responsible for all government assistance funding and tax programs, including the SR&ED annual claim submissions
  • Participation in leadership training programs
  • Partner with subject matter experts, as required

About You

  • CPA designation
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience (Pet, CPG and manufacturing industries are a plus)
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Knowledge of SAP and its relevant accounting platforms
  • Knowledge of accounting programs for small business
  • Above average Excel knowledge

Salary Range
$120,000 – $130,000/year
