Job description: Aviva Canada’s audit team provides independent reliable assurance to our management, Audit Committee, Board of Directors, and Aviva plc as to the adequacy, effectiveness and sustainability of internal controls using a risk based audit approach.
We need a Senior IT Audit Manager to ensure sufficient and quality assurance work is being conducted by all audit staff to support the delivery of the opinion on controls, through setting audit standards and processes and conducting quality reviews of audit files. Mentoring and developing audit specialists will form part of this role
Your focus will be on our information technology, business continuation, disaster recovery and e-Commerce, by managing and, as appropriate, performing audits and reviews on the adequacy and effectiveness of the control environment of Aviva Canada.
A significant portion of time will be focused on crafting and delivering an opinion on controls for the mega processes through the audit process. We will need you to manage a broad spectrum of audit projects concurrently including operational, financial, and information system from the planning and scoping stage, fieldwork through to the reporting stage and delivery.

What you’ll do:
- Develop and deliver an audit opinion on internal controls through completion of the audit. This includes planning (risk assessment, scoping, objective setting), fieldwork (testing using a variety of tools such as queries, risk and control workshops) (continuous audit), reporting (formulating and presenting findings and recommendations, determine rating, acquiring adequate actions) and follow up (verifying actions taken). Assigned mega processes will include the more sophisticated ones, such as governance and high level controls, change projects
- Be accountable for developing, implementing and maintaining / continuously improving the audit methodology and supporting templates for all aspects of the process ensuring consistency with Group practices and compliance with professional standards
- Ensure compliance with audit standards through a quality assurance review process on all audit files as they are completed.
- Provide continuous mentoring to audit team members
- Work with the Chief Audit Officer and Chief Risk Officer to establish the departmental strategy, annual planning and budgeting, and in the reporting to executives and the Audit Committee.
- Manage relationships with external audit resources.
- Lead timely production of high quality reports.
- Support the head of IT Audit in developing an appropriate annual audit plan for Aviva Canada IT Audit.
What you’ll bring:
- BSc and or Msc in Data Science/ Computer Science/ Statistics/ Math/ Science based subjects
- 6 to 8 years of risk based auditing experience, including a good understanding of risks and controls from various perspectives; financial, operational, strategic, and information technology and working knowledge of control models.
- A minimum of 3 years of leading staff or leading audit reviews requiring the management of staff.
- Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP) and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM); CISA required
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Master Business Continuity Professional (MBCP)
- Other relevant IT certifications are strongly preferred
- Understanding of business issues facing insurance companies and broad eye for business.
- Demonstrated strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution abilities, strong interpersonal skills.
- Results oriented and a relationship builder.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving, skills
- Sound, high level project planning skills.
- Current knowledge of audit industry standard methodologies
- Strong experience with SQL and PL/SQL.
- Experience of producing visual analytics using Python, R etc.
- Visualization tools (QlikSense / Tableau)
- Knowledge of Data engineering principles including automation and a sound understanding the risk and control environment in this space
- Experience with groundbreaking technologies such as AI / Machine Learning / Deep Learning
- Deep technical proficiencies with at least five years of experience in two or more of the following areas:
- Information Technology Strategy & Governance
- IT Enterprise Risk management and assessments
- Information Security, Change Controls, Systems Development Life Cycle, Computer Operations, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
