Job description: Working directly with Indigenous, municipal leaders and government officials, our team develops strategies to advance TELUS’ connectivity plans across western Canada including rural, remote and indigenous connectivity. Our focus is to maximize connectivity and economics for rural communities including fully leveraging infrastructure builds that will also advance key growth portfolios for TELUS including TELUS Agriculture, 5G, Security, and Health.

As the Senior Strategy Manager you will be responsible for negotiation and implementation of benefits agreement with Indigenous communities on key strategic projects. You understand the legal, regulatory, governance and cultural matters relating to project development in British Columbia and will leverage your expertise to identify risks and opportunities to support TELUS in the development of key strategic projects. You will be responsible for ensuring strong interlock between the negotiation team and project teams and communicating effectively with our leadership and executive teams.

In alignment with TELUS’ commitment to Reconciliation and respectful engagement and in collaboration with Indigenous communities, work to successfully advance TELUS’ business goals and support project team through relevant permitting processes (e.g. Heritage Branch, Rezoning and OCP amendment processes) with a focus on collaboration and open dialogue.
The position will play a key role in supporting the negotiating team in obtaining mutually beneficial project agreements (both short, and long-term) and in the long-term term responsibility for agreement implementation to support certainty for TELUS and communities.
Collaborate with senior leaders and project team to identify opportunities, risks and mitigations and providing strategic advice, ongoing reporting, and/or presentations to senior management and executive leadership
Lead the development and coordination of presentations, information, and other materials to be shared with internally and externally.
Qualifications:
You’re the missing piece of the puzzle
- The ideal candidate would be a strategic thinking professional with a minimum of 6 years of demonstrated leadership working with First Nations on project development in B.C and a strong knowledge of the permitting and regulatory processes associated with project development in B.C. is a necessity •Extensive experience engaging with and providing advice and support to executive leadership •Government relations experience (Indigenous, municipal, federal, provincial) interacting with senior government officials on large, complex, politically sensitive files •Strong leader with proven financial analysis, project management, strategic planning, communication, program and service delivery evaluation, and performance management skills •Passionate team player with reputation for building strategic, effective working relationships with stakeholders •Proven communicator with the ability to clearly articulate complex concepts and storylines through various mediums, with an emphasis on Google Slides in the language of many different audiences
Great-to-haves
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized program •Public consultation experience in rezoning or other permitting processes •MBA certification
