DUTIES

The University and Employment Preparation Department (Faculty of Education and Social Work) at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for Sessional faculty members in the Education and Skills Training (ESTR) Trades Assistant program in the Winter 2021 semester. The program provides students with diverse abilities the knowledge, skills, and training needed for entry-level job opportunities.

Successful candidates will instruct courses in the Trades stream of the ESTR program, develop practicum placements, and supervise practica.

Most courses will be delivered virtually or through alternate modes, with some face to face teaching of practical components and work experience practica, following strict safety protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, or qualifications and experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities normally developed in a Master’s program.
  • Served in a recognized Carpentry Apprenticeship program, having obtained Carpenter Red Seal Certification with minimum 5 years’ post-certification experience, or equivalent education and relevant experience.
  • Supervisory experience with demonstrated inter-personal skills.
  • Teaching Certificate or Instructor’s Diploma.
  • Relevant teaching experience with adults.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a construction contractor.
  • Experience working with students with diverse abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62)
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 62)
  • Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10)
