This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Manager of the QEII Simulation Program, the Simulation Specialist provides technical and educational support for the QEII Simulation Program (in collaboration with Educators), and supports the preparation of the simulated learning environment, simulation technology and equipment and provides technical management of scenarios.

The prime focus of the Simulation Specialist is to maintain the technical “readiness” of the simulation including audio-visual technologies utilized in simulation learning educational activities, support planning and implementation of simulation educational activities, and act as a technical expert as part of the QEII Simulation Program.

The Simulation Specialist demonstrates technical competency related to simulation, audio-visual and other technologies, knowledge of simulation practices, and has an understanding of health care settings, practice and health professions. The Simulation Specialist exhibits the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours that align with the Interprofessional Practice and Learning Framework. This framework is grounded in theories of adult and concept based learning, practice development, fundamentals of care and collaborative learning and practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering or equivalent combination of training and experience required
  • Two (2) years related job experience required
  • Certification in Simulation Specialist or Simulation Educator programs (i.e., CHSOS, CHSE, SLIIC) preferred
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting considered an asset
  • Ability to prioritize own work
  • Ability to proactively keep abreast of new and emerging technologies
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to users
  • Adheres to standards for simulation program operations
  • Ability to troubleshoot IT/AV or Simulation Technology issues
  • Ability to lift more than 40 lbs, i.e., patient simulators, cadavers
  • Ability to work with cadaver/animal specimens, i.e., dissection, preparation, handling
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

Permanent full-time position, 75 hrs bi-weekly

Salary Information

$30.3033 – $36.7885 hourly
