Job description: Your Opportunity:

As a Sleep Technologist at the South Zone Sleep Laboratory in Lethbridge, Alberta, you will have the opportunity to participate the diagnostics of sleep disorders and the treatment of sleep disordered breathing. You will perform overnight diagnostic sleep studies and initiate & titrate positive airway pressure therapy. You will be expected to contribute to the education of patients, students, and staff, participate in department and/or service area process improvement and maintain professional practice. In addition, to optimize the delivery of safe, quality patient care you will demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: ability to be self-directed and exercise independent decision making and critical thinking, ability to work under pressure, ability to effectively resolve conflict, ability to interact collaboratively and positively with staff, students, physicians, patients and their families, using the principles of patient and family centered care. Current rotation for this position includes 10 hour night shifts. The successful applicant will be required to be registered with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a registered polysomnographic technologist.

Description:

As a Sleep Technologist, under general supervision of a Polysomnographic Technologist you will perform polysomnographic recordings for sleep studies including EEG, EOG, EMG, EKG, Oximetry and Respiratory Effort. You will obtain relevant patient information and explain sleep study process to clients/patients. You will conduct transcutaneous monitoring (arterial blood gases) and monitor client’s progress applying appropriate therapeutic interventions if required. You will document clinical manifestations including abnormalities, calibrations, artifact interventions and treatments. You will also educate clients and family on sleep disorders and the use, cleaning and maintenance of equipment. You will calibrate a variety of equipment such as oximeters, multi-channel recorders, electro and spectrographic recorders.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy, Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse program. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) Certificate. Registered with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA), College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA), College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Additional Required Qualifications:

Active and ongoing registration with CLPNA, CRNA, or CRTA required. Ongoing and active RPSGT registration with BRPT is required. Preferred Qualifications:

Recent experience performing sleep diagnostics preferred. Registered Respiratory Therapist designation preferred.
