Alberta Health Services is currently seeking an experienced Spiritual Health Consultant to join the North Zone, Seniors Health, Specialty Teams. The Spiritual Health Consultant, Specialty Teams (Palliative Care and Complex Care Support Teams) plays a key role in the care of clients served in Continuing Care within the North Zone. As a Consultant with the Seniors Health Specialty Teams, you will be a member of a mobile interdisciplinary team providing consultation services for two groups of clients: palliative and adults with complex behaviors. Using a patient and family-centered care approach, you will work with local clinicians and other specialty team members to provide specialized assessment, care plan recommendations, interventions, and follow-up to patients. As a consultant, you may provide coaching and education to other team members to build capacity in the care of patients with served by the specialty team. There is a strong focus on multidisciplinary and collaborative processes. As a Spiritual Health Consultant, you are accountable: for the provision of patient centered spiritual health care (screening, assessment, and interventions); leadership and capacity building/ awareness of awareness of Spiritual Health Care; Supporting and educating CPE students, health care providers and religious community visitors; Promoting staff resilience and trauma support. This position is located in Bonnyville, Alberta, but may be negotiable within the east side of North Zone. Travel is required within the North Zone.

Description:

As a Spiritual Health Practitioner, you are accountable for providing leadership in the profession for the team and provide consultation, expertise, and direct service delivery in all matters related to spiritual health care in the context of health and care delivered. The Spiritual Health Practitioner responds to spiritual health needs identified by patients, families, and staff through a process of spiritual assessment and care. Reflecting a holistic, compassionate approach to care, the Spiritual Health Practitioner advances an evidence-based spiritual health care approach inclusive of patients/families, staff, physicians, and volunteers which is integrated into inter-professional collaborative team practice. Spiritual Care Professional Practice is to be delivered in alignment with and advancement of AHS provincial professional practice standards, frameworks, and guidelines. Given the variety of spiritual, religious, cultural, and philosophical beliefs that co-exist within site(s), the Spiritual Health Practitioner encourages respect for individual patient beliefs within the health care team and facilitates and supports the involvement of religious community visitors.

Required Qualifications:

Masters in Theology and/or Spirituality/Religion or a clinically related field with confirmation of educational equivalency obtained from the Academic Assessment Committee of the national professional association, Canadian Association for Spiritual Care/Association (CASC/ACSS). 2nd Advanced Level, Clinical Psycho-Spiritual Education (CPE) with commitment toward certification as a spiritual care practitioner, (CASC) within three years. Current Membership or Associate Membership of CASC/ACSS. Enhanced professional leadership skills to foster interdisciplinary capacity for spiritual screening, history taking, and spiritual care clinical intervention and support. Demonstrated ability to collaborate respectfully with various religious/spiritual and cultural groups.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in spiritually informed care. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience within the last five (5) years in Palliative Care and/or Continuing Care or other relevant clinical area. Minimum of one (1) years’ experience within the last five (5) years Continuing Care, Brain Injury, Mental Health or other relevant clinical area. LEAP and/or palliative care training. Possession of a valid driver’s licence and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel. Proven leadership experience. Proven quality and accountability expertise. Competent and comfortable with MS office suite and virtual meeting venues (TEAMs, ZOOM etc.). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Able to work independently in different environments (weather conditions) and must be physically capable of carrying approx. 25-30lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of Continuing Care service- including delivery options, assessment/placement criteria, and community supports and agencies. Additional preparation in Psychiatry, Mental Health and/or Palliative/end of life care. PIECES, Supportive Pathways, NVCI, capacity assessment or other related education. Previous experience with providing adult education. Meditech and Connect Care trained.
