Position: Sr. Accounts Receivable Clerk

Department: Finance

Status: Temporary Full-time for approx. 1 Year

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7.5 Hour Days.

Site: Oakville

This position is key liaison with patients and their families for managing the Hospital’s self-pay & private insurance billing portfolios. You will represent the Hospital while working directly with patients & families, insurance companies & collection agencies. You will be active in obtaining patient & guarantor signatures. You will also work closely with provincial & federal insurances as well as being responsible for co-pay calculations. This role will support the accounts receivable team as needed to deliver against the team & Hospital objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following

  • Effectively communicate with Hospital clinical staff, social workers, Physicians, patients and/or their families, and insurance agencies.
  • Manage the self-pay & preferred accommodation portfolios, primary contact for internal & external enquiries
  • Perform detailed review of self-pay & copayment accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy of billing and revenue
  • Reconcile self-pay & copayment accounts in excel on a monthly basis and investigates any discrepancies
  • Perform a range of activities to collect of accounts on a timely basis and mitigate the risk of delinquent accounts including diligent follow up and payment plan negotiation
  • Responsible for maintaining and communicating policy and procedure documentation related to Uninsured Patients & Preferred Accommodation.
  • Key liaison with third party collection agencies including the electronic file transmission/receipt of information in accordance to Hospital policy
  • Assist Accounts Receivable Coordinator with the preparation of the monthly Accounts Receivable reporting package which requires advanced excel knowledge to download text files and convert to excel pivot tables/advanced formula reports
  • Prepare detailed aging subledger reconciliation analysis in excel to clear old accounts, overpayments, or errors in billing
  • Performs administrative duties including filing and data entry
  • Attend patient bedside to obtain signatures, meet with patients & families on-site and via telephone
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Halton Healthcare Services is seeking individuals who are competent in their chosen profession; patient/customer focused; team players; effective communicators; caring and respectful and are fiscally responsible.

  • Diploma or university degree required (Business or Accounting Major is an asset)
  • Minimum of 2 years of related Accounts Receivable/Collections experience
  • Advanced Excel and experience working with computerized databases and electronic file transfers is preferred
  • Healthcare and Meditech experience is an asset
  • Ability to discuss financial coverage and payment collection with patients and/or family members and private/public insurance companies
  • Compassion and judgement to discuss sensitive financial matters with patients and families at the bedside/office/phone; ability to handle these matters in a professional manner
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships
  • Highly self-motivated and dedicated team player
  • Detailed oriented with a high level of accuracy
