The position is located at the Coquitlam campus but this position may/will require you to temporarily work remotely to comply with the current Covid-19 social distancing guidelines. Hours of work: up to a maximum of 20 hours/week.

The Role
Under the supervision of Student Affairs and Services, Counselling, this position will assist with projects related to the Mental Wellness Strategy development and Suicide Prevention Initiative.
Responsibilities
- Assist with student or employee mental wellness strategy consultations.
- Consolidate consultation data documents for data analysis consultant.
- Participate in feedback sessions or working group meetings for Student Affairs and Services mental health literacy framework development.
- Assist with tasks related to development of suicide prevention digital resources.
- Collect relevant mental health resources to support working groups as needed.
- Research peer training options for suicide prevention training workshops for students.
- Help organize mental wellness speaker or panel event for Fall 2021/Winter 2022.
- Continue to update community resource pathways document.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
- Completion/In Process of a degree or diploma in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Therapeutic Recreation or Psychology. Other related programs eligible when combined with a familiarity with mental health concepts.
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills including fluency in the English language (written and verbal).
- Excellent listening skills with the ability to understand and extract key information in order to respond appropriately.
- Demonstrated aptitude for developing and maintaining a variety of information management and retrieval systems, including filing systems, data bases, and activity records to meet initiative needs.
A demonstrated ability to:
- Independently research topics and summarize information;
- function in an environment where professionalism, confidentiality, and sensitivity are of primary importance;
- maintain confidentiality and integrity of information in compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) regulations;
- display a calm and professional demeanor;
- problem solve and identify solutions;
- work independently under minimal supervision;
- work as member of a team, contributing to a positive work environment and adapting to change;
- demonstrates great organization skills, efficiently multi-tasks and has the ability to adapt to changing priorities;
- experience in the coordination of special event planning and logistics;
- Use software applications including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams, Zoom and other database management systems at an intermediate level.
Domestic students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:
1. The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term; OR
2. The domestic student must have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term; OR
3. The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term
International students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:
1. The international student is enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College, throughout the academic year; OR
2. The international student, who is not a Douglas College student, but is an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C., has a valid Study Permit that has the notation – “May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria.” Proof of enrollment in full-time studies from the other post-secondary institution is required.
An original copy of a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and an original Study Permit are required by law before commencing work at Douglas College.
Qualified Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference over students of other qualifying institutions.
