The Faculty of Health Science is seeking to contract a subject-matter expert for the development of a program in Respiratory Therapy. Reporting to the Associate Dean of FHS, and in collaboration with the new program development team, the incumbent as the subject-matter expert (SME) utilizes their background and experience working in or with working as a registered respiratory therapist in a hospital or community setting to research, develop and prepare a new Ontario college credential in respiratory therapy. The incumbent works independently and collaboratively with a team to meet deliverables, with a range of stakeholders, both on campus and off, to ensure the new program is current and leading-edge and meets the standards of the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario. The incumbent will work with the Centre of Teaching and Learning to ensure programs adhere to ministry, institutional and regulatory requirements.

The responsibilities include:

  • Develop a high-quality new academic program:
  • Ensure learning outcomes and the programs of studies course sequences meet institutional and Ministry priorities, including quality standards and applicable college policies, procedures and practices.
  • Participate in meetings with various stakeholders to present and address inquiries regarding the proposed program.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise regarding respiratory therapy in order to develop a program description, learning outcomes, maps, and course descriptions, etc.
  • Contribute to the development of a pre-program advisory committee utilizing one’s own and the college’s professional network.
  • Facilitate and report on external assessments with industry, student and academic focus groups/surveys.Respond to and amend documents as required to address internal and external reviews.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a three-year credential in respiratory therapy and a minimum of five years experience directly in or working with respiratory therapy. The incumbent will have demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills including running focus groups, and in addition have strong analytical skills and an ability to prepare clear, concise and current project-related documentation and reports.

The incumbent will work with others to establish rapport, credibility and build effective relationships to accomplish common team goals and objectives. They will also work with confidence and with a strategic focus and manage competing priorities to ensure that agreed-upon goals and project-related work is delivered on time and achieves desired goals. To do this they will manage projects and delegate tasks accordingly to ensure deadlines are met in a timely manner as well as set priorities, stay focused and balance changing or competing priorities.
