Job summary

The Global and Strategic Communication (GSC) department at McGill University’s School of Continuing Studies (SCS) plans to offer preparation courses for the Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF) examinations for applicants to professional orders. These specialized courses are intended to help candidates acquire the communication skills needed to meet the language requirements to become a member of a professional order. In its initial offering, the SCS will include preparation courses for the OQLF exam for applicants to the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec (OCPAQ).

The OQLF exam is an instrument for measuring written and oral comprehension and communication skills. The exam lasts about three hours and takes place in person at the OQLF offices. It consists of four parts in the form of a case study linked to a professional situation typically encountered by accountants in Québec.

Some of the teaching activities in the preparation course, including a practice exam, will be based on case studies.

To make sure this OQLF exam preparation course adequately prepares learners for the challenges of the real exam, we require the expertise and input of consultants in the field. These individuals, in collaboration with the project’s academic directors, will be asked to write and validate the case studies and provide feedback on authentic, specialized communication scenarios.

Main responsibilities

  • Design one (1) module, which must include:
  • a case scenario of a prescribed length (900 to 1000 words) in French, related to the professional realities of Chartered Professional Accountants in Quebec and written according to the writing guide provided;
  • a brief solution to the case scenarios, which may take the form of a bulleted list and must be supported by best practices in the sector or theoretical sources;
  • a list of vocabulary related to the case scenarios;
  • Ensure the teaching materials correspond to professional standards in the accounting field in Québec;
  • Meet delivery dates requirements identified by coordinators during an orientation meeting;
  • Provide feedback and examples of typical interactions between stakeholders in the accounting field (business leaders, clients, etc.);
  • Propose lexical resources and documentation (bibliography, professional codes, etc.) relevant to the accounting profession in Québec;
  • Collaborate efficiently and timely with the project developers through emails and videoconferencing if necessary.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must:

  • be able to write in French;
  • hold a university degree in accounting or have significant experience in the field;
  • have at least 3 years’ experience in the accounting field;
  • be able to work independently and as part of a team.
