Job Summary
Join our innovative and entrepreneurial team as the Supervisor for the City of Mississauga’s Entrepreneurship Hub-IDEA Square One. This engaging educational and co-working space requires an innovative and experienced driver of collaborative entrepreneurship. The Supervisor will oversee all operations of the space, manage, and provide consultation to the IDEA Square One members, while maintaining and forging new partnerships across the ecosystem. This high-profile and collaborative hub provides support to Mississauga entrepreneurs at all stages through networking, business advisory services, programs and events.
Duties and Responsibilities
As a member of the Economic Development team and under the direction of the Manager Entrepreneurship & Innovation, the successful candidate will:
- Oversee the day-to-day IDEA Square One operations including managing hub spaces, membership programs, events and liaise with facility management vendors, including property management, and security services;
- Foster, promote, and maintain a positive, lively, and inclusive environment for all stakeholders at the IDEA Square One Innovation Hub;
- Manage hub membership programs including member engagement, registrations and benefits, member communication, space booking, member records through dedicated hub management platform, with emphasis on monitoring, following up and reporting on membership program and hub activity;
- Provide one-on-one consultation to innovative and growing businesses;
- Develop entrepreneurial programming and deliver events that support innovative and growing businesses in Mississauga;
- Mediate interactions between members and visitors of the space ensuring all feel welcome, safe and supported environment;
- Work directly with the Small Business, Innovation and Entrepreneurship team to coordinate events, programming and services to support start-up and scaling companies;
- Maintain the IDEA Square One spaces and develop and implement site amenity improvements such as furniture, lighting, and the overall upkeep of the space;
- Administer third party contracts related to the IDEA Square One event operations;
- Attract and cultivate external partnerships and sponsorship opportunities;
- Work with EDO staff and internal departments to foster partnerships with stakeholders such as community groups, entrepreneurial organizations and mentors;
- Provide recommendations for site and operational improvements for future initiatives;
- Undertake the responsibility for high profile and sensitive issue management that relies upon a highly developed knowledge of municipal government practices and approval process;
- Encourage cross departmental thinking and collaboration, interpret individual and department concerns, anticipate issues and opportunities, take ownership, use initiative and remain solution focused;
- Utilize superior public relations and customer service skills with all stakeholders including clients, co-workers, management, general public and politicians on related issues;
- Develop and prepare sensitive correspondence including emails, briefing notes, corporate reports, and corporate policies using political acuity, logic and exceptional judgment skills;
- Implement and identify improvements to existing IDEA program delivery, Policies and Procedures, IDEA Square One bookings policy, procedures application and guidelines;
- Act as a public spokesperson and represent the City on external committees;
- Implement hub standard operating procedures, which includes hub financial management, analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions;
- Assist with monitoring, control and recommendations for annual budget;
- Deliver timely reporting of hub finances and performance metrics;
- Provide direct supervision and training for part time staff at the Hub;
- Provide general support to hub clients and visitors;
- Assume the role of Manager on Duty on a daily basis;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Note: Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. This is an on-site role.
Skills and Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Business, Entrepreneurship, Project Management, or a related field
- Three to five years experience in an entrepreneurial space or business office management role, project management, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Highly motivated self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships in a team environment;
- Experience developing relationships with community organizations, partners and sponsors;
- Must possess exceptional leadership skills and strong interpersonal skills;
- Must possess excellent customer service skills and client relationship-building skills;
- Have excellent judgment, analytical skills;
- Demonstrated strong budget and financial management, and reporting skills;
- Knowledge of corporate grants and government grants an asset;
- Demonstrated professional and political acumen, negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
- Ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders and partners;
- Demonstrated experience in exercising strong policy and procedure discipline, and have a working knowledge of applicable legislative requirements;
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines, and work in a changing environment;
- Committed to continuous improvement;
- Experience in the supervision of staff and in dealing with the media is an asset;
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office with excellent knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 85,155.00 – $ 113,541.00
