Job Summary:
As the Adventure Camp Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the mountain adventure camp programs. Your primary objective is to inspire children, youthand leaders to connect with nature, engage in outdoor play, make friends, and embrace the unique experience Grouse Mountain adventure camps have to offer. The Adventure Camp Supervisor is responsible forcommunication efficiently with the other Mountain Adventure Supervisor, leading 3 team leads, and up to 40 camp leaders towards success and ensuring a safe and exceptional experience.
Essential Job Functions:
Lead a team of camp leaders providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure desired outcomes are met
Over see day to day operations of the adventure camp programs, including scheduling, logistics, activity planning to ensure smooth and efficient daily scheduled and camp leader execution
Prioritize the safety and well-being of all camp leaders and participants by implementing and enforcing protocols, policies, procedures and risk malmanagement strategies
Conduct comprehensive 40-hour training session for camp leaders and team leaders on topics such as outdoor leadership, group management, risk assessment, communication skills, outdoor activities, art directives and 3 strike policy.
Use effective and efficient communication to provide feedback to leaders, and team leads to encourage employee development, and motivation
Ensure that campers and their families have a positive and memorable experience by delivering exceptional customer service, addressing concerns promptly, and fostering a welcoming inclusive and supportive environment
Work closely with the Mountain Adventures supervisor, other departments to promote to the overall success of Grouse Mountain Adventure camps
Maintainingaccurateand detailed program records including, but not limited to,daily documentation, incidents/accidents, weekly camp lists, emails etc.
Supervisory ResponsibilityProvides direct supervision to the Mountain Adventure summer camps team.
Required Qualifications and Abilities
Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a camp or outdoor education setting
Strong passion for outdoor recreation and youth development
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Demonstrated the ability to lead and motivate teams in a dynamic, fast-paced ever-changing environment
Proficiency in risk management and wilderness safety practices
Valid First Aid certificate
Completion of post-secondary education related to Education, recreation, tourism leadership or liberal arts, or an equivalent combination of education or experience
Experience in or ability to teach at least 4 from the following; Outdoor education (survival skills, bush craft, leadership), Archery, Axe throwing, youth development, BC wildlife/ecology knowledge, orienteering, coaching, High-Five, Play it fair!, experience with working with youth with neurodivergence’s.
High energy, strong work ethic, and team focused
De-escalation training, ECE, crisis intervention training or other child care certification an asset
Working Conditions
Hours of operations are weather dependent. Due to the nature of the business shifts might require standing for long periods of time, lifting, twisting and other forms of manual tasks, which may have to be conducted outside in all weather conditions. .
Compensation and Benefits
$20.99/hour up to 24.55/hour
