Responsibilities
Reporting to the Facility Manager and working under the supervision or direction of regulated health professionals, the Care Team Assistant (CTA), provides direct, hands-on care based on the needs of the patient and program/or unit. As a member of the collaborative care team, the CTA is responsible for supporting patients’ activities of daily living (AOL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). The CTA also reinforces patient and family teaching according to established guidelines and the plan of care.
Qualifications
- Graduate of Continuing Care Assistant program
- Certified or eligible to be certified for Continuing Care Certification with Dept of Health and Wellness
- If not currently certified, must obtain within 1 year of hire
- Current BLS-C (HCP) certification
- Experience in care of the medical/surgical and geriatric/rehabilitation patient an asset
- Completion of an Alzheimer’s or Dementia Course
- Current certification in CPI and Back Care program (or willingness to obtain)
- Commitment to excellent patient care
- Adaptable to change and flexible to accommodate the expectation of the position
- Ability to take direction and accept accountability for actions taken
- Ability to work in a self-directed environment and also effectively within an interdisciplinary team
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills
- Commitment to maintain and protect patient, client, and personal safety on an ongoing basis
- Commitment to confidentiality and privacy of NSH patients and clients
- Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Hours of Work
Permanent part-time (70%) position, 52.5 hours bi-weekly
Salary Information
$19.62 – $21.22 hourly
