Role Summary

The Corporate Applications Services (CAS) team is looking for an experienced technical leader / designer who will bring expertise in leading the development, maintenance and implementation of modern software solutions for the corporate finance area. This is an exciting period for the corporate Finance area as we are in the middle of integrating new solutions like SAP, implementing on the AWS Cloud and transitioning to delivery models using digital Dev Ops processes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the creation of integrated designs, providing strategic oversight across platforms and the technical leadership for project team resources.

We’re looking for a Technical Lead/Solution Designer to join the Corporate Applications Services (CAS) team to provide technical expertise in developing, maintaining and implementing modern software solutions for the corporate finance area.

In this role you will play a key role in the SunRise program (Sun Life IFRS 17 Implementation) and contribute to implementing the new technology, defining the roadmap for our platform of software products.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical leadership for the project team resources to understand and implement new technical solutions and provide both strategic oversight and tactical implementation support.

What will you do?

  • Provide technical leadership within projects ensuring the appropriate technical solution is being delivered, appropriate governance is applied, risks are mitigated, issues are resolved, and projects are successfully implemented.
  • Managing the integration of multiple systems including in-house developed or vendor products that are on premise or cloud based or SAAS applications.
  • Deliver both high level and detailed designs, and participate in peer design reviews
  • Contribute to release management and automated deployment using DevOps tools
  • Apply analysis skills to assess the impact of infrastructure and technical changes
  • Ensure information security standards and requirements are incorporated into all solutions
  • Review codes, test plans and test results as required.
  • Provide estimates and contribute to defining timelines and project plans
  • Work closely with Business Analysts and business partners on project scope and requirements.
  • Work with external software vendors during vendor implementations, renewal activities and issue resolution
  • Provide mentoring, task management and governance to the development team (onshore, offshore, 3rd party)
  • Lead and co-ordinate the Go-Live activities including the execution of the deployment plans and checklists
  • Contribute to the ongoing support, stability and performance of application systems in production including problem analysis, resolution, escalation

  • 7+ years of progressive information technology experience with full application development life cycle and systems integration experience

  • Able to balance tactical and strategic objectives and think beyond the immediate need

Technical Skills/Experience

  • Expertise in system integration, job flows relative to data integration
  • Experience with implementing vendor packages into an established environment consisting of various technologies and platforms
  • Experience with creating design documentation and diagrams
  • Relational database experience (Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Windows server knowledge
  • Experience with cloud based platforms (AWS Amazon Web Services)
  • Strong knowledge of ETL and experience with ETL tools (Informatica, SSIS, AWS Glue)
  • Experience with the DevOps tools (Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, CDD, Ansible)
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) best practices
  • Experience with scheduling tools (Control-M etc.)
  • Experience with PowerShell and/or other scripting tools and techniques
  • Understanding file transfer process and options (FTP/SFTP)
  • Knowledge of ITIL standards and best practices
  • Understanding of Agile Methodologies

What will be nice to have?

  • Knowledge of Informatica PowerCenter
  • Experience with GOAnywhere tool
  • Technical experience in Unix (AIX and/or Linux)
  • Experience with Python
  • Working knowledge of Jira and Confluence
  • Previous experience with Corporate Finance applications

Unique Requirements

  • Occasional weekend work in support of project delivery and implementations
  • This role requires enhanced reliability check, this means that you have resided in Canada for the last 5 years.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
