As the Technical Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Pathology laboratory while ensuring compliance with rigorous accreditation standards. You excel at fostering an environment that promotes teamwork, respect and inclusion, productivity and continuous improvement. You will be responsible for: prioritizing and scheduling workload and resources; trouble-shooting and resolving issues within the lab section; providing effective leadership and supervision to a unionized work group including conducting performance reviews, recognizing achievements and appropriately addressing performance related concerns, in consultation with the Veterinary Clinical Pathologist. In addition, you will identify training needs, schedule training programs and ensure that all applicable SOPs and health & safety regulations are followed; write SOPs and work instructions; monitor QC and resolve issues brought forward through the non-conformance reporting process (CAPA); support continuous improvement of client services.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal health and food safety and/or a background in medical or healthcare sciences. What you need to be successful in this role:
- You have a BSc in Biology, a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) designation would be an asset, or you have attained an equivalent combination of education and experience that has prepared you for this next step in your career;
- You are a proven leader with a demonstrated ability to motivate and guide teams in a high-volume health sciences setting, with tight, client-driven deadlines;
- You are ambitious and approach challenges with integrity, tenacity and patience;
- You have a talent to bring teams together and have strong mediation and conflict resolution skills;
- You are driven to provide the highest quality of client service and are skilled at managing a diverse group of internal and external clients;
- You are an excellent communicator and are able to convey information to others in an effective manner;
- You have the required administrative skills to operate an efficient and productive laboratory (i.e. budgeting, ordering, scheduling);
- Knowledge of quality systems (e.g. ISO 17025) and laboratory accreditation requirements (e.g. the Standards Council of Canada, the Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation) would be considered a great asset;
- Rabies immunization is required.
