HDR is seeking a Transit Construction and Commissioning Engineer to join our Construction Administration and Field Services group in Richmond Hill to work on Transit Infrastructure projects. Reporting to the group lead, the position will be responsible for working full-time at a field site during the construction and commissioning of transit facilities and stations. Projects would require travelling to varying sites throughout the Greater Toronto-Hamilton Area.
Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Transit Construction and Commissioning Engineer, we’ll count on you to:
- Review Contractor developed commissioning plans and interpret conformance to project agreements.
- Witness testing and review results and attend site demonstrations to confirm conformance to specified requirements.
- Develop project construction and commissioning reports
- Audit and review construction work is in accordance to intended design, contract documents, Ontario Building Code, and applicable standards.
- Represent the Owner during construction and commissioning phases of the project.
- Review and monitor deficiencies to resolution prior to project completion.
- Coordinate with the project design team and design compliance team.
- Monitor and review onsite compliance to the Contractor’s Safety Plan and Client Safety requirements.
- Review, interpret, and analyze the project schedule and progress schedules.
- Attend bi-weekly progress meetings and other project related meetings.
- Liaise and coordinate with client and contractor representatives
- Complete field compliance reviews
- Coordinate and mentor a team of inspectors
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, and or related discipline with relevant experience.
- Registration with PEO as a P.Eng., and or the ability to be registered.
- Experience with overseeing construction aspects on transit infrastructure projects;
- 10 years or more of progressive construction and commissioning experience with transit facilities;
- Experience on Metrolinx and TTC construction projects;
- Familiarity and experience with P3 or Alternative Delivery Projects;
- Proven analytical and communication skills;
- Sound knowledge of TTC design standards, and Metrolinx and AREMA design standards.
- Knowledge and skill in interpreting and applying transportation construction practices; procedures and quality assurance techniques;
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Laws and Regulations (Environmental, Health and Safety, etc.) and their application in construction contracts;
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and be able to independently write reports and correspondence;
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks;
- Demonstrate strong leadership qualities;
- Valid Ontario driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle.
