Duration: Approximately 6 – 12 Months

Under the direction of the Supervisor and/or the Distribution Foreman – Service or Field, the Utility Operator is responsible for a wide variety of entry level field and service activities. Within the scope of the job, is responsible to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency in accordance with company, provincial and municipal codes, and procedures. Ensure all work and driving results in a safe condition for the employee, co-workers, and the public.

What You Get to Do:

  • Assist with installation and maintenance natural of gas utility systems.
  • Perform entry level field and service work such as meter set maintenance, installation of AMR devices, turn-offs and line locating.
  • Conduct routine inspection of distribution lines.
  • Conduct gas sampling as part of routine duties.
  • Safely operate a variety of equipment, small tools, and instruments.
  • Perform meter reading duties.
  • Perform entry level stock and shipping and receiving duties.
  • Perform facility maintenance including grounds maintenance, housekeeping, and painting as assigned.
  • Maintain related records and general files, complete forms, and plant records.
  • Identify and document any incidence of gas theft from company and customer facilities.
  • Promote good working relations with external and internal contacts.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • May be required to work shift work in operations when necessary.
  • May be called out to assist in emergencies on a 24-hour basis.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or G.E.D.
  • Related experience in the upstream gas utility system, meter reading and AMR devices is desirable.
  • Knowledge of gas distribution system is desirable.
  • Familiarity with various regulatory codes governing the natural gas industry is desirable.
  • Must be able to obtain the appropriate company required certificates and successfully complete the required courses.
  • Must have a valid Alberta Class ‘5’ driver’s license and be able to obtain an In-House Operator’s Certificate and may be required to obtain a higher class or certification as needed.
  • Ability to interpret plans, working drawings and material specification is desirable.
  • Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude and dexterity in the use of tools and equipment.
