  • Bi-weekly processing of payroll in compliance with internal and external controls and in accordance with labor regulations and standard accounting principles
  • Responsible for all payroll-related information maintenance in Payroll/HRIS system (Avanti)
  • Responsible for recurring and ad-hoc report generation for payroll-related information as well as the development of new or custom Avanti/Excel reports
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and provincial laws, regulations and reporting requirements relating to salaries, wages, overtime, benefit plans and workers’ compensation
  • Research, analyze, document and communicate changes to payroll regulation, policies, and legislation, as required
  • Collaborate with the HR Coordinator and Manager regarding processes for new hires, vacation tracking, terminations, etc.
  • Cross-train with HR Coordinator and develop reference materials to ensure appropriate coverage during absences and respond to employee/management concerns regarding employee information, payroll, RRSP, DPSP and benefits on a timely basis when HR Coordinator is not available.
  • Serve as a back-up in developing and delivering training for employees/managers regarding time entry, approval, and reporting.
  • Prepare payroll and benefits journal entries and analysis of all payroll related general ledger accounts (i.e. insurance, HCSA, WCB, and other employee benefits)
  • Analysis and preparation of remittances including; WCB, payroll taxes, DPSP, RRSP, etc.
  • Responsible for issuing all required Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Service Canada forms and documents including ROE’s, T4’s.
  • Coordinate the process for STD/LTD claims between employees, managers and Manulife representatives
  • Review and analysis of all benefits for annual budgeting and premium changes and participate in benefits renegotiation
  • Other duties/projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Knowledge of pension and benefits legislation and workers’ compensation policies/processes
  • Skilled in problem-solving, written & verbal communication, detailed and ability to multi-task
  • Experience working with Avanti or other payroll processing system an asset
  • PCP designation or in progress is considered an asset or a College diploma in Payroll, Business Administration, HR, Finance or Accounting focus
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a complex payroll environment
  • At least 3 years’ experience in HR and Benefits
