THE ROLE

The VP, Finance is a strategic role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the finance department. This role will play a critical part in shaping the financial future of the company, ensuring its stability, and supporting its expansion. As a key member of the executive team, you will work closely with other departments to align financial strategies with the company’s goals and report directly to the CEO

This individual would be part of the Executive Team at MEC. The role does have an exciting opportunity for career development as we will look to grow this individual into our future CFO.

Location: This is a hybrid HO role with 4 Days a week from the office in Vancouver/stores/distribution center. The role will also require periodic travel to our store across Canada and our distribution centers.

As the VP, Finance you will be:

Manage Full-Cycle Corporate Planning / FP&A Process

  • Understand and support development of long-term business strategy and key operational /strategic decisions
  • Oversee creation of annual budget through partnership with key business leaders, ensuring a scalable process with KPI and expense tracking at appropriate levels
  • Oversee development of multi-year standalone financial forecasts with full P&L, cash flow and balance sheet
  • Manage quarterly/monthly re-forecast process to communicate timely progress against business targets

Financial Operations / Reporting

  • In partnership with Financial Reporting team, ensure delivery of accurate and timely reporting for internal leadership team, external stakeholders, and Board of Directors
  • Hold departmental leaders accountable to their results and KPI’s through a best in class monthly reporting and review process
  • Assist with the financial planning associated with key strategic initiatives including new store openings, market expansion, etc

Cash and Credit Management

  • Lead relationships with all external financial partners
  • Oversee preparation of ongoing cash flow forecasts and management of daily cash flows of the business

Key Business Partner

  • Develop value-added financial analysis for senior executives
  • Ensure financial, analysis and insights are provided to operational stakeholders on a timely basis

Process Improvement and Automation

  • Create a scalable and process driven monthly process to report on the health of the business and provide real time operational updates to leadership on specific metrics
  • Process improvements to analytical tools and internal reporting to increase automation of FP&A functions
  • Build the infrastructure to further automate and manage KPI reporting on a go-forward basis

People Leadership

  • Oversee the hiring, training and performance management of the FP&A staff including managing performance of direct reports.
  • Assist with the development of strategic and tactical plans for the entire finance team.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience including 2+ years of progressive experience in FP&A
  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA-CA or CPA) preferred
  • Demonstrated skills in strategic planning and process improvement.
  • Proven ability to interact, communicate effectively and collaborate with Executive leadership and all levels of staff
  • Experience preparing quality of earnings analysis
  • Detailed knowledge of financial systems
  • Adaptable, strong business acumen and attention to detail
  • Must be able to address multiple issues in a high paced and rapidly changing environment. Time management skills are critical.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

THE COMPENSATION & PERKS

The anticipated annual base salary range of this role is $190,000 to 230,000. The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. This role is eligible for a annual variable incentive plan.
