About us:

ENGIE Energy Access is one of the leading Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGo) and mini-grids solutions provider in Africa, with a mission to deliver affordable, reliable and sustainable energy solutions and life-changing services with exceptional customer experience. The company is a result of the integration of Fenix International, ENGIE Mobisol and ENGIE PowerCorner; and develops innovative, off-grid solar solutions for homes, public services and businesses, enabling customers and distribution partners access to clean, affordable energy. The PAYGo solar home systems are financed through affordable installments from $0.19 per day and the mini-grids foster economic development by enabling electrical productive use and triggering business opportunities for entrepreneurs in rural communities. With over 1,700 employees, operations in 9 countries across Africa (Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia), over 1.2 million customers and more than 6 million lives impacted so far, ENGIE Energy Access aims to remain the leading clean energy company, serving millions of customers across Africa by 2025.

Our research and development team is a group of experienced developers who are happy to share their knowledge. Our vision of making clean, sustainable and affordable energy available to people in countries with no or poor public electricity supply drives us in our daily work. The role of the R&D team is, among other things, the maintenance and further development of the core product, the co-development of devices together with other manufacturers, the development or purchase of test equipment (e.g. test jig, battery tester), the testing of 12V consumer products and the provision of technical support.

You support us: * Build prototypes and hardware – you support us in the production of hardware assemblies (assembly of printed circuit boards, (SMD) soldering, testing and possibly installation of firmware) and devices (e.g. installation of a circuit board in a housing and its cabling)

  • Carry out series of measurements – after consultation with the person responsible, you will carry out tests and series of measurements (e.g. temperature behavior of a charge controller depending on the load), record and evaluate them in order to finally document the results
  • Various jobs include things like setting up a 3D printer, sorting electronic components, or working according to your additional qualifications (e.g. knowledge of C, C++, or Python)

You bring with you: * First experience in hardware development and knowledge of soldering and handling of HW laboratory technology (e.g. multimeter, laboratory power supply, oscilloscope)

  • Degree in the field of electrical engineering or computer engineering. A degree in renewable energy systems, for example, is not an exclusion if you already have technical experience, such as soldering and handling measuring instruments. Your motivation is particularly important, your grades are secondary
  • Desire to learn new things
  • Interest in a product that has a real positive impact on people in our target countries
  • The ability to work independently
  • English skills that don’t have to be perfect, but are so good that you can communicate well with your future colleagues in an international team

We offer you: * A job that makes you go home feeling like you’ve done something meaningful

  • Highly motivated and friendly colleagues with excellent know-how who support you and are happy to share their knowledge with you
  • Fair pay as well as joint company events
  • A great international team that can support you in the implementation of your ideas or the creation of bachelor’s/master’s theses
  • Flexible working hours and an office directly at Ostkreuz
  • A long-term career perspective
